Spring Fever

You Guys...

I've got spring fever or cabin fever or something fever - really just vacation on the B-a-RAIN! I am (almost) all packed up for our trip and of course now (the day before we leave) I am realizing all of the cute things I wish I had purchased when I was eyeing them weeks ago!  Don't get me wrong, I did my fair share of shopping to get prepared, but I always seem to find a few more things I wish I had snapped up while I was thinking about it... (darn it!)

I have had quite an interesting time packing, friends.... My lovely husband made me promise that I would pack very light (errrrr, ok???).  Luckily we have been together almost eight years now so he knows not to expect much from this promise.  However,  with 95 degree weather and 99% humidity it has made things a little easier!

Since it is going to be so warm and humid where we are going I was looking for light, yet functional clothing.  I got this yellow sundress ($55), it is great quality and fun flowy fit!  I am also loving the cold shoulder trend for spring, it shows just enough skin and still has a classic and sweet look.  I think this eyelet number ($76) is just gorgeous!  I remember having cover up envy last summer when I went to the beach... this set is stunning and the cover up could easily be worn on its own it is so pretty!!  Finally, no vacation look is complete without a fun hat!  I wear my fadora anywhere and everywhere... I like this one ($18).  And I have been crushing on these gorgeous embroidered Eugenia Kim hats ($485) since last spring, they are a bit of an investment - also love this less expensive option ($23) and this one ($26)!

X's & O's in Boulder

Growing up, we spent many weekends as a family in Boulder.  My parents, and grandparents were CU Buffs so some of my earliest memories are making the short drive from Golden to beautiful Boulder to see Ralfie run the field at football games.

My friends and I used to make the drive from Denver all of the time to bother Zoe (and crash her parties) right after we graduated from college (I strayed from the CU legacy), but I realized Jonny and I don't get up there nearly enough!  Last week I thought it would be fun to take a little day trip to Boulder to visit my cousin.  It brought back such fun memories of summer lunches on Pear St. and fall football games, that I know Jonny and I will be adding it to our list of quick getaways from now on. 

We walked around and stopped in a few adorable spots including Willow, a seriously gorgeous boutique a few blocks from the middle of town! The clothes were gorgeous and the stylists were so helpful and had such a creative eye.  The structure of this jacket is ahhh-mazing (also love this one).  And I made a bee-line for this orange floral top (maybe because I have Broncos on the brain or I am ready for spring... or both!).  The same beautiful print also comes in a dress and skirt 🙊🤗😍.  I also love these DL jeans - they are so comfortable and just the perfect amount of distressed.

Snowshoe Adventure

Hi Guys!

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you had a great long weekend!  Jonny and I spent a few days in the mountains skiing then rushed down to Denver and enjoyed a Broncos win - woot woot! 

Growing up, my mom used to go snowshoeing and I though she was crazy for ever taking the time to snowshoe over ski.  Jonny and I adventured around our cabin on some snowshoes about a month ago and I have been hooked since!  

Recently, some friends and I took our pups on a little snowshoe adventure and now they are hooked too!!  It is such a fun way to spend time with your friends while enjoying the outdoors.  Living in beautiful Colorado it is the perfect way to explore our amazing environment - right in our backyard.

Liz and I both opted for vests and sweaters since it was a gorgeous, sunny day!  This vest that I wore is 30% off today and free shipping with code puzzle - limited sizes an colors left (also like this one and this one)! Her pup, Gus, and Charlie Brown are besties so it is always fun to do active outdoor things with them together.  I have been wearing pom pom hats as often as possible.  We got ours at little boutique in Breckenridge (and I have since purchased them in white, black, and orange!) but this is a great option with several colors to choose from.  I have said this a few times, but I never in a million years thought I would purchase a pair of "rain boots" living in CO, but I have gotten more wear out of these red Hunters more than any other boot this season!  And they are really actually great in snow, just need a thick sock to keep your toesies warm.  I have also been on the hunt to find an orange puffer like my friend Brit's (Brit is the adorable girlfriend of my lovely photographer, Corey, and a great photographer herself! Check out both of their work here and here)- no such luck in finding her exact jacket so far! But I do love this one (40% off)  and it will hopefully get here in time to cheer on the Broncos on Sunday!!!

Staples and Sparkles

Hi Friends!!

Hope your week has been FANTASTIC!  It has been a fun and exciting week around here... last fall Jonny and I booked a trip to Thailand, but were unable to go because we both ended up having work conflicts.  Two nights ago we rebooked it - leaving next month!! And I have been beyond excited and crazy distracted since (the baby elephant obsession is REAL!).

Last weekend Zoe (who I mentioned is a big foodie!) took me to some amazing places when I visited her in New York.  Chelsea Market alone was one of my favorite stops.  I love farmers markets and it felt like an indoor, fancy, farmers market with every type of restaurant you can imagine... We went with Bar Suzette for lunch - seriously the most delicious and filling crepe I have ever had!! Other memorable stops were brunch at Jane, and a snack from By Chloe a vegan (although you would never know it) restaurant.

My sisters and I are big musical nerds, so clearly we had to see a show!  We went back and forth between Les Mis and Finding Neverland... after much deliberation we went with Finding Neverland because Matthew Morrison is only in it for a few more days.  

When I am packing I am always sure to bring a blazer - it is the perfect multi purpose piece for a trip that can easily be dressed up or down (and a classic you can always count on - this one is three years old!)!  I wore this sparkly blazer (old also love this one and this one) to brunch with these jeans and these boots then paired with these leather leggings and these heels for dinner and the show in the evening.  PS I put all of my essentials in this clutch (steal $39) and throw it inside my large tote when traveling!

A Few Days in NYC

Hi Friends!

Happy Tuesday!  I have missed you!!  It was hard leaving New York because I had such a wonderful time with with my sister (affectionately called Bo.... not that it is any shorter than Zoe, but anyway...).  But I have to admit, it is really nice to be home.  I have been out of town really for the last three weeks and yesterday felt great being in our own house and starting to get organized and check things off our list for the new year.

The first night we arrived in the City, Jonny had a work dinner so Zoe and I went exploring.  I have visited New York often enough, but this is the first time I have since Zoe moved there almost two years ago (yes, she gave me a pretty hard time about it too!).  It was such a fun experience having her as my tour guide (proud big sister moments).  She is a big foodie so we pretty much ate our way through the city (will share my favorite spots later this week!).

We ventured from our hotel through beautiful Grand Central Station.  I was in awe of this gilded and chandelier filled building (I have a bit of an obsession with both, ya know!).  

I packed my lighter weight camel coat $110, in attempts to be a practical packer and didn't want to have to bring a second coat (we won't discuss my full suitcase of shoes 🙊).... The color is such a wonderful neutral and goes great with everything - and the fit and price can't be beat! It was a little on the light side for one very chilly day while we were there, but other than that it was almost perfect for the whole trip.  I have also been wearing this blouse non stop!  It is a great layering piece and will be so fun to wear coming into spring!  My booties are still available in black in a few sizes and on sale $79 (the color I am wearing is sold out).  My purse is also out of stock (sorry!!) but I love this one, this one and this one  (also on sale). 

Also, I stumbled upon an amazing photographer while on my trip - Jen Sosa.  She is super creative and a blast to work with!  So looking forward to shooting with her again soon!!  Jen is based in LA, but travels to NYC often... look her up if you're looking for a lovely photographer in the area!

Girls Day Getaway

Happy Monday!

I hope you had a great weekend! The last few days have been incredibly beautiful here and unseasonably warm.  By this time of year Denver has usually seen a good snow or two.  Although there was threat of some last week (which I was really excited about!!) it has been mostly clear blue skies, and perfect weather for some long walks with my favorite people (and pup!). 

A couple of weeks ago was a different story... It was quite dreary for several days in a row, so the perfect time to head to the spa with two lovely friends for a little pick me up!  The Four Seasons is known for their wonderful customer service, comfort, and their spas!  So Jules (also with me here), Auna and I were excited to spend this chilly day warming up in their cozy relaxation area then visit the Level 3 Salon to bring some life to our damp locks.  I was heading to a play, Jules was going to a restaurant opening and Auna had date night so the timing was perfect!

We had such a great day - we talked about how we wish we could spend every day that very same way.  The salon is on the smaller size, with four stations so the perfect place to spend time with your girls and get ready for a special occasion.  We had such a fun time catching up and they even delivered some yummy snacks to the salon so we could stay and chat longer.  Such a great way to spend a rainy, cool day and we can't wait to go back!

Almost Winter White

Happy Tuesday, Friends!!

I hope you had a great weekend and wonderful start to your week! 

This past weekend we did a little more celebrating for Jonny's b-day with a brunch with our good friends at one of our favorite restaurants, Linger (some of you planning trips have asked about our favorite restaurants - this is one of our go-to's!)..  We also attended the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show and Gala benefiting the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, which is always such a touching event.  When Jonny and I moved back from Washington, DC I worked with GDSF for two years and am so grateful for everything that I learned from the amazing families and people while I was there.  It was really nice to be back and see how the event and Foundation have grown since I left

October is always filled with so many fun and meaningful events, it seems we blink and it is time to start Christmas shopping! I used to abide by the rule - "No white after Labor Day", now I couldn't dream of putting my whites away.  I think this look is perfect for fall luncheons and date night now, and by adding some sparkle (like these shoes, these earrings, or this statement necklace), will be perfect for the holidays just around the corner! This BB Dakota coat is also great dressed up or down - continuing the winter white/monochromatic/neutral theme: I love the idea of pairing it with white jeans and brown boots (I like these jeans and these boots in the whiskey color).

A Perfect Mountain Retreat

Hi Guys!

I hope your week is going well!  Yesterday was a toughie for me.  Jonny and I made the (not so) wise decision to take a 6:00 a.m. flight back from D.C. after a long wedding weekend.... never. again!  It always sounds like a good idea at the time to save the $35 or whatever, then when you actually get to it, sleep is worth so much more than those few dollars you saved.  But, I have to tell you, other than the lack of sleep, it was the most perfect wedding weekend celebrating my sister and her new husband.  I was a puddle of happy tears their whole wedding day, it was so incredibly beautiful!  I can't wait to share more from her big day with you!

I am so excited to share more from our belated anniversary weekend;

We love visiting Vail in the fall, there are always amazing deals all over town because crowds have left from the summer and haven't picked back up yet for ski season.  When we visit, Jonny and I always try and stay at The Sebastian Vail.  Not only does it hold a special place in our heart because it is where we held our wedding reception, but it is the perfect place to go and getaway from it all and enjoy the quaint town of Vail. 

Other than the beauty of the hotel itself, what really keeps us coming back is The Sebastian staff.  Everyone there makes us feel like old friends - always remember our names, and conversations from months ago, and we feel right at home every time we step into the gorgeous lobby.  Also, dog friendly hotels are always a top priority for us, so Mr. Brown doesn't feel left out :)...and the Sebastian welcomes him and every pooch at their hotel with open arms (they have a chalkboard with every pup's name that is staying there).  He is always as bummed as we are when it is time to head home. 

Jonny and I spent most of the weekend relaxing, trying some new restaurants and I got my first bit of exercise since my scooter accident (you'll notice my lovely band-aid in a few pics, my owie is still a bit too scary to make its debut).  We took a nice long walk from The Sebastian out to Vail Golf Course where we got married. It was so beautiful - such a perfect weekend!  We are already planning our next trip back.

Sweet Vail Spots

It's Wednesday already?! Oh my goodness!!

By now most of you know that I am a last minute packer, as I sit here typing I should really be packing for my sisters wedding this weekend.  Yes, and there is that!!  My amazing older sister is getting married this weekend and I fly out on the red eye tonight, after the exciting and seriously anticipated grand opening of Restoration Hardware, Denver.  I have been trying to keep up on all of my maid of honor duties the last several weeks, but I am sure you know, as with most things, there are always last minute details to finalize and I feel like there is so much to do today before I leave.  I am sure I am going to forget something.  Not to mention, I always get a little nervous about giving toasts even if it is just in front of my family.  It is so funny, I have always been very outgoing, but the moment the spotlight is on me and it is time to say something rehearsed..... I go blank. So I have to make sure my toast is all written out and ready to go before I leave (oh and pack - wish me luck!).

This past weekend Jonny and I took a quick trip to our very favorite place, Vail.  We were originally going for our anniversary a few weeks ago, but had to cancel because crutching around the Village didn't sound like any fun.  However, I am not complaining... we got to celebrate twice :).  Vail has always been special to both of us since we both grew up skiing since we were tiny tiny. 

Whenever we are in town, I make it a point to stop in my two favorite shops!  I can never resist the yummy smell that comes from Fuzziwigs Candy Shop - they make their own caramel and you all know how I feel about gummies (its a real problem), and they have every kind imaginable!  I have been shopping at Blitz Boutique for a long time; they have adorable, girly dresses, beautiful coats, fun graphic tees, and shoes (and the loveliest staff)!!  Really all I could ask for in a store.  I love the color of this Ted Baker jacket I found there and these amazing sunnies!  Blitz is offering Denver Darling readers a 15% off discount in store and online with the code DenverDarling15 through October 31st!

Fall Florals

Morning Friends!

I live for crisp fall mornings, big blanket scarfs, boots, cozy sweaters, and snuggling up by the fire like any girl, but I do get a little sad when it is time to put away my summer clothes: the fun, bright, happy colors, and florals on florals on florals?! Well, thankfully Ted Baker has us covered and could never go a season without vibrant color and pretty patterns.  The deep beautiful colors in this dress are so perfect for a fall cocktail party and even Thanksgiving - the full, floral skirt could not be more ladylike and feminine.

For those new friends who didn't know me during my rebellious years, I was convinced at one point in my life that it was a very good idea to get a nose ring (just a little guy).  Although my parents were incredibly upset when I showed up one weekend from college with my new accessory I convinced them since everything else about me was so preppy I needed something to give me a little edge (didn't hear any arguments).  On my 25th birthday, after several years together, I decided it probably didn't look the most professional when assisting with non profit committee meetings and attending congressional hearings on Capitol Hill and decided it was time to say "goodbye".... Jonny does make comments about bringing it back a little more often than I would have imagined.

Since then I have learned to be expressive through my clothing (thank goodness).  I love pairing a super feminine look, like this dress, with a masculine element, like this BB Dakota faux leather jacket which is available at Blitz Boutique (also like this one and this one ($24.90) - which I have two of).   The pairing of sassy and sweet is always a lovely combination and adding a leather jacket over your prettiest pieces is a great way to do that.

Grown-up luggage

Hi Friends!!!!!!!

Can you already tell that I am in a better mood than last week (sorry about that)?!  I am!!  I was in a real funk being stuck inside when our weather was so beautiful and fally - thank you to a wonderful friend for convincing me to head up to the mountains this past weekend and breathe our fresh mountain air.  The leaves are just a little past their peek and still absolutely stunning.  I feel so lucky to live in this beautiful place.

I am excited that Jonny and I will be heading back up this weekend, which got me thinking: we have quite a bit of travel coming up... Vail this weekend, my sisters wedding the following, and a fun trip abroad in November!! I don't know about you, but I have been lugging around my giant pink suitcase that my parents got me in college (that I can curl up and fit in btw) in hopes that no one would notice: 1) the sheer, ridiculous size 2) the interesting pink color 3) the holes and scuff marks all over (yikes!).  And Jonny is in a similar luggage situation, minus the pink and monograms ;).

On our last trip I was so embarrassed at the condition of our luggage we did our very best to squeeze a weeks worth of clothing into Jonny's weekender, the only suitable piece of luggage that we had... I am sure you can guess how well that went.  I have since realized the importance of investing in grown up and professional looking travel pieces. 

The mall that I spend maybe too much time at ;)... has gone through a recent renovation and all of the new stores are beautiful and fresh, bright and pretty; Ghurka being one of them and I was instantly drawn to the quality and work that goes into each of their pieces.  Which I learned are all handmade in Connecticut - I think that is really amazing!!

I love how each piece fits seamlessly together and so much thought has been put into the construction and design. (When you have been rolling around with a one trick pony, these are things you appreciate).  I instantly knew I wanted the Kilburn because of the versatility, but have been going back and forth between the Cavalier I and Express II as its buddy.... suggestions/thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated!
