I have never been much of a camper.... okay, I just don't camp. Please don't judge me! I really am from Colorado - I promise! It is something we just didn't do growing up. With our anniversary approaching next week, I have been thinking about all of the vows Jonny and I wrote and hoping that I have been a good wife this first year of our marriage and fulfilled all (or most) of my promises. Jonny grew up in a household with three brothers, lots of testosterone and doing manly things. I grew up with two sisters, and an estrogen filled house, where the sight of bugs meant it was going to a long night of hiding in sweatshirts and socks for everyone…. My poor dad!! Luckily we had boy dogs to keep Dad company.
In our wedding vows I promised that I would go camping “sometime” - so I started looking into camping and stumbled upon some pictures of heavy duty, beautiful tents, just outside of Vail. I realize that this is not exactly camping, but it has all of the elements of camping that Jonny enjoys and comforts of home that I enjoy.
Collective Retreats Vail is only a two hour drive from Denver – about twenty miles past Vail. It’s situated on Four Eagle Ranch so you have access to all of the activities that the ranch offers (horseback riding, ATV tours, zip line, and winery!). The property is stunning and the customer service is truly Colorado hospitality. I made a reservation with Peter, the owner and founder, and thought that was by pure luck. As our arrival date neared we found out that individual guest service and a strong attention to detail is absolutely their specialty. All of our activities and delicious dinners were coordinated in advance which was such a special and yummy treat (I can't even describe the outrageous S'mores we had!).
With only three tents currently and big expansion plans for next spring at this location and Aspen including 10-12 new tents and a yoga deck, we can't wait to go back! Some girlfriends and I have also started planning a fun girls "camp-out" retreat next summer! I kind of wish I had known about this before my 47 bachelorette parties this summer because it is the perfect place to gather and spend time with all of your girlfriends.
I am not sure if this has made me more or less of a camper... we will see! Either way, we had an incredible experience and are so excited we found a new CO gem to stay and play at.
