Goodbye Fall

Happy Monday!

In Colorado we have a saying: "if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes" - a few days ago the sun was shining and perfect for walking Mr. Brown in Wash Park - one of the best parks in Denver for sure! But, its inevitable that lots of snow is just around the corner.  During these transitional months it is especially important to layer up since the sun will be shining one minute and snowing the next.  

I never thought it made sense to own rain boots in Denver since we rarely get substantial rain, but Hunter Boots like these are perfect for our changing weather - and such a fun way to add a pop of color to your outfit (also love adding these cozy socks for colder days)! You guys know how I feel about winter whites.... I just picked up 5280 Magazine's latest issue "Winter in the City" and they have some great tips on staying entertained during the winter months (like going to Top Golf or taking Charlie Brown to an indoor agility center - which I know he'd love!).  5280 is a great resource for Denver peeps or anyone planning a trip here!

H&M Fall Favorites

Happy Wednesday and Happy, Happy Birthday To my sweet Husband!

Today is Jonny's birthday, and I am like a child when it comes to birthdays and holidays. So...I am pretty much a kid on Christmas Eve getting ready for his party tonight and hoping he gets home soon so he can open his presents!  I am also a terrible secret keeper, so the sooner the better 🙊.

I first discovered H&M when I was interning in Washington, D.C.  It was the perfect place for me to go to find affordable, work appropriate, yet stylish clothing. As a 19 year old, working on an interns salary…which was $0 an hour btw...finding a place that could help me dress to impress, yet not break the bank was so important.  I was a little frustrated when I returned home to Denver after that summer and there was nowhere like H&M for me to shop. However, a few years later one popped up right near me and just in time for graduation and interviews.... perfect!!

Now that I am not interning or interviewing anymore, I am still in need of a place I can count on with affordable, stylish clothes for everyday casual wear, meetings, and events.  Also, its crazy to think we are getting ready for the holidays already, and there are always so many gatherings this time of year - its nice to have a place you can depend on that you know will always be classy and elegant!  I have rounded up my favorite looks above that are perfect for now through the holiday season (everything is between $13 - $130!). P.S. I want fur on ev-er-y-thang!

Fall Florals

Morning Friends!

I live for crisp fall mornings, big blanket scarfs, boots, cozy sweaters, and snuggling up by the fire like any girl, but I do get a little sad when it is time to put away my summer clothes: the fun, bright, happy colors, and florals on florals on florals?! Well, thankfully Ted Baker has us covered and could never go a season without vibrant color and pretty patterns.  The deep beautiful colors in this dress are so perfect for a fall cocktail party and even Thanksgiving - the full, floral skirt could not be more ladylike and feminine.

For those new friends who didn't know me during my rebellious years, I was convinced at one point in my life that it was a very good idea to get a nose ring (just a little guy).  Although my parents were incredibly upset when I showed up one weekend from college with my new accessory I convinced them since everything else about me was so preppy I needed something to give me a little edge (didn't hear any arguments).  On my 25th birthday, after several years together, I decided it probably didn't look the most professional when assisting with non profit committee meetings and attending congressional hearings on Capitol Hill and decided it was time to say "goodbye".... Jonny does make comments about bringing it back a little more often than I would have imagined.

Since then I have learned to be expressive through my clothing (thank goodness).  I love pairing a super feminine look, like this dress, with a masculine element, like this BB Dakota faux leather jacket which is available at Blitz Boutique (also like this one and this one ($24.90) - which I have two of).   The pairing of sassy and sweet is always a lovely combination and adding a leather jacket over your prettiest pieces is a great way to do that.

I was lucky to work with the sweetest photographer in Vail, Jenny Nelson on this shoot. She and her husband typically shoot weddings in Vail and Santa Barbara - if you are looking for a photographer in either area definitely look them up!

Fall Fashion from Neiman Marcus Denver

Last Friday one of my besties, Liz and I got the opportunity to go to the Neiman Marcus Denver Fall Trend event.  Neiman's holds similar events throughout the country to showcase the best in fall fashion.  However, it was extra special for us Denverites because the event was also celebrating 25 years since the opening of the Denver store.  It was a fun celebration for customers and people who attended the original opening gala 25 years ago.

My favorite looks of the night were the monochromatic styles that seemed to steal the show.  I especially loved the Haute Hippie Jacquard long coat not only because the stunning model rocking the almost all black ensemble, leather-like jeans, and deep green Tory has been a friend since we were 15, but the look is super wearable and easy to recreate at various price points.  This sweater  and these leather trimmed skinny jeans ($36.99) would be wonderful substitutions.

We all know that we would love the Valentino's that almost every model sported, but we are not all able to foot the $900 + bill just yet - some of you commented on my shoes from the other night... surprise! They were $35!  The blush pair I wore are currently sold out, but these are still available in dual tone ivory/blush (which I also have) and black.

I got my BCBG dress last year when I was stocking up on wedding event dresses and have worn it to several events since.  The color is a great neutral tone and fabric is the perfect weight transitioning into fall.  I have linked some similar blush favs in different price points below!!
