This past Sunday my sister in law, Erin, and I had the privilege of hosting a baby shower for our favorite Aussie Princess. Erin graciously offered to host the shower at her beautiful home and the two of us together had a great time planning Nerida's garden party themed shower for the little wallaby on the way :).
Although a garden party may seem girly we did our best to stay gender neutral as Mummy and Daddy are not keen on finding out the sex of the wee one (yes, this is me writing in my Australian accent). Nerida is very girly, however, so we knew that the party itself should be pretty and feminine like her, but not completely pink as to not make any assumptions. I love these confetti balloons I found on Black Dog Inc.'s Etsy site and this sparkly floral banner I found on Fetti and Fizz. And I was so impressed by the selection of floral napkins and floral straws on Amazon that had the style we were going for and vintage touch we knew Nerida would like - I went with these and these
The menu we chose was so simple and perfect for a ladies brunch. I stopped by two of my favorite bakeries in town (Gateaux and City Bakery) to get cookies and pastries, Erin made a yummy fruit salad, and I made two egg stratas that were so easy, I have pretty much been shouting the recipe to everyone I see. We also did spiked and non spiked pink lemonade and cotton candy as favors (found some at City Pop in Denver and online here). We also made a Costco run and discovered their cheese selection... it's legit - but we will be eating gouda and manchego for the next four months ;0. Oh well... there are worse things.
Egg Strata:
- 6 Eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups cheddar cheese
- 1 lb ground Jimmy Dean sausage
- Loaf of Wonder Bread (cubed)
- Tsp. salt
- Tsp. ground mustard
- brown sausage (or dont and make it veggie! - we did one of each)
- Beat eggs, milk, salt, ground mustard, and a little pepper
- Grease casserole dish, place crustless bread cubes on bottom of dish
- Layer like a lasagna, bread then sausage, cheese, bread, sausage, cheese
- Pour egg mixture over and place in fridge overnight
- Bake at 350 for 1-1 1/2 hrs. (until center is no longer jiggley)
It was a small group of ladies and Nerida requested no silly games, so she suggested we decorate blocks. It turned out to be an awesome activity and we even worked on the leftovers after the other ladies left.
Nerida sent me this sweet shot and it absolutely warms my heart! So excited for them and can't wait to meet the little Mason soon!
What are some of your favorite baby shower themes and activities? Erin's is a few weeks and I would love to hear your ideas :)!!
